  • I’m Leev, 27 years old, based in Lower Saxony, Germany. I’m currently studying Photography and Visual Communication while working independently as a photographer and tattoo artist. I’m also a passionate dancer myself.

    I’m a photography student, right before my bachelor. The project will be my graduation project.

  • You might be a good fit if:

    • Dance is an important part of your life.

    • Dance does not have to be your profession.

    • You are open to being photographed beyond the studio.

    • You are interested in a long-term creative collaboration.

    • You are willing to share parts of your everyday life.

    • You are curious about the process.

    • You have a personal relationship with movement that you would like to explore.

    All ages, genders, backgrounds, countries, dance styles and levels are welcome.

  • Dance is visible through movement.

    But what happens behind it?

    I’m interested in the people behind the movement, their stories, their everyday lives, their journeys, their bodies, their doubts, their motivations and the things that dance means to them.

  • This is not a one-day photoshoot.

    The project will take place over several months, with regular but non-daily contact and meetings.

    Depending on where you live, the collaboration can include:

    • Personal meetings

    • Photography sessions

    • Everyday documentation

    • Training / rehearsals

    • Interviews and conversations

    • A disposable camera

    • Video calls

    • Voice messages

    • Digital exchange

    The process will be different for every person.

    The project has a very specific concept and framework. I’m trying to be mindful about who I involve in the process at this stage. But that’s something we figure out together.

The photographer behind the project

I’m Leev, 27 years old, based in Lower Saxony, Germany. I’m currently studying Photography and Visual Communication while working independently as a photographer and tattoo artist. I’m also a passionate dancer myself.

My interest in this project comes from something I find myself thinking about again and again: we often only see the result, but rarely the story that led there.
We see the dancer on stage. The finished photograph. The successful career. The person who seems to know exactly where they are going.

But what happened before that?
What decisions were made?
What doubts were there?
Who inspired them?
What did they have to overcome?
And how did they actually become the person we see today?

I’ve always been drawn to these backstories. Maybe especially because I’ve taken a rather unconventional path myself and still often find myself wondering: How do I get where I want to go? And how did other people find their way there?
Through photography, I want to create space for those stories, not to create an idealised image of a dancer, but to get closer to the person behind it.

I’m interested in the process, the everyday life, the detours, the uncertainty, the passion and all the things that usually happen long before anyone sees the result.

I want to know the story behind the movement.
